PANE IN THE GLASS PRODUCTIONS

 “GET EVEN” MENTALITY

This “get even” mentality
Hurts so many innocent people.
Whether it’s terrorists overseas
Or just the street gang maniacs,
It’s a terribly serious social disease.

Like the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s,
We have to stop the feuding;
And start to show each other we care.
Maybe it started with Cain and Abel;
But it’s got to stop somewhere.

Jesus taught the golden rule,
To help us get along.
He proclaimed, “Do unto others,”
But some misunderstood.
And thought it meant, to blow up your brothers.

They never learned the second half,
“As you would have them do unto you.”
Unless they’re into suffering and pain,
It would never occur to them,
To stand in front of a moving train,

Or burn themselves to the ground,
Or shoot themselves in the heart,
Or build a bomb and blow themselves up,
Or beat themselves to death,
Or drink out of a cyanide cup.

And when we seek to justify,
Our reciprocal violent acts,
An eye for an eye is so out of date,
More is accomplished with love,
Than will ever be accomplished by hate.
